Bark Collar and Electric Fence?
I have an electric fence. It works very well keeping my dog within the boundaries of our yard. Now I want to work on her crazed barking whenever someone walks or jogs by the house. Will a bark collar work in conjunction with an electric fence or just confuse the dog by making her think her boundary is shrinking? Thanks in advance for your help.

There are so many ways to help your dog learn not to bark at passersby. Please do not use a bark collar. They do not have a good track record for success, they cause your animal pain and they don’t learn why they don’t need to bark.
Please spend the money on a decent trainer instead who will show you compassionate and successful ways of preventing your pup from barking.
And yes, it is possible the static from the electric fence can set off the collar although that is uncommon.

It will work if you start the dog off on a very low level with the bark collar and gradually increase it until it is the right level. For that you need a collar that has owner adjustable levels. Try this one-
ADDED: Don’t listen to people who say it is cruel. My favorite argument is "How would you like it?" What a stupid argument. Of course I wouldn’t like it. There are plenty of things I would hate about being a dog. How do you think your dog would like it if he was fined $150 for going too fast, or put in jail for years for misbehaving. Human discipline and dog discipline are different for a reason.

bark collars are cruel. your dog needs training not punishment, and this will involve some effort from you.

Try to spend some time training your dog, or find someone who will do it for you. The collar actually gives an electric shock to the dogs neck each time it barks. Its a kind of torture device for animals, what I suggest you do is wear it yourself for awhile before you place it on your dog, so you understand what it feels like.

Don’t use a bark collar to punish the dog. That’s their way of speaking. How would you like being zapped every time you spoke? Using a bark collar is animal cruelty.

How about instead of being lazy, why don’t you TRAIN YOUR DOG?!
Training isn’t cruel, unlike your "shock" methods you have chosen.
Please train your dog.

As long as she is trained with the flags of the electric fence, she should not connect the two if you don’t move the flags. She shouldn’t be wearing the electric fence collar anymore if she was trained correctly. Plus, the bark collar is only activated when she barks, not when she wanders toward the fenceline. Unless she does both at the same time, but she should be able to differenciate between her prior training and the new training as long as both are kept up. Most dogs are smart enough to do this. Be sure to follow all directions of the collar though. It is only a training aid, not the complete training for her. They make other kinds of bark collars too, that are not shock. They make some that spray, there are voice command ones, etc. Look into all options of behavioral training as well.
