@princess1807 Im no dog trainer but ive heard that it can help, like kikopup said, to practice separation games. its healthy for a dog to spend some time alone & some time with other people. one suggestion our puppy class gave us to prevent separation anxiety was to tether the dog when they are in a mellow mood, to a table or something. start by just moving around the room and ignoring any whimpering. slowly, as your dog improves, leave the room. dont pay attention to them if there anxious, etc.

my dog barks when she sees things out on the street or hears another dog barking (she loves other dogs, but ever since she was little the sound of barking for some reason set her off. she doesn’t seem necessarily nervous but she seems concerned and definitely aroused). how should i adress this problem? its hard because the stimulus, the thing on the street, is only there for a few seconds and if she just goes outside to see what it is she stops. its just a bad habbit we want to stop THANKS!

@carrotkiller112 the clicker thing is called a clicker and trainers use it to praise their dogs when they obey them.

Well, Kiko’s a pro, it just took her a 2 lessons. However when she was a puppy it took her about a month to stop barking at dogs. I hope to post my next vid soon. But the main key is reinforcing the dog for being relaxed and calm BEFORE they bark, and then making sure when they do bark, you use a “lets go!” and briskly walk in the other direction, so that the dog can’t be reinforced for barking (causing the behavior to continue)

Hmm… get a new dad. Just kidding. You could retrain her to do a silent trick, like touch your hand when the bell rings. For the moment, get people to call you on your phone when they arrive so that your dog can’t keep practicing the reinforcing behavior. Then ring the bell a lot yourself when no one is there so that it’s no longer that exciting

Hmm… are they in a crate? If so, then have them in a larger area when you go a big pen. It sounds like you tried nearly everything. A good technique is 1 Take them for an hour long hike so they are pooped and sleep while you are gone, then tone down the exercise once they are out of the barking habit. 2-play separation games while you are home- reinforce your dogs for chilling in the other room while you are in a different room

I have a question, I think my dogs may have seperation anxiety. What do you suggest for that? I have tried everything, including the tips from this video bu they bark for hours when I am not home. I have left on the tv, the radio, given them extra toys and treats put out for the hours Im gone and taken them away when I get home. I bought a DAP which is mother dog hormone to calm them, nothing works.

Ok, so my father thought it would be great to teach my dog to speak.. =/ he used the doorbell because before she only barked when someone she didnt know was at the door. Now when she gets all excited because she wants a treat or wants us to throw the ball she barks and does every trick we taught her without us saying a word. She’d do anything ya ask her but she isnt shy about givin lip about it. How can i fix this city boys mistake? =P

I’ve been using the clicker training ideas from your other video for getting my dogs to look at me with the word “look”. It works absolutely great! Thanks so much for your video.

Yes, reward the pup for quiet. Also other tips: have the crate in your bed room, make sure the pup has been out before bed, if the pup is under 12 weeks or longer, set an alarm and let the pup out to the bathroom before he thinks to whine. Tire the pup out just before bed. Build the crate as the BEST place to be with training games. Leave the pup in a puppy safe area, or pen when at work. It can be unfair for a puppy to stay in a crate when an owner is at work AND at night.Hope that helps
