Hey Zack George! I have a 3 1/2 month old German shorthaired pointer that we have had now for almost a week. We changed her food and put a collar on her and is now going crazy. She will spaz randomly about the collar, and its like she feels she can’t move when its on. Therefore, she just sits there all day and whines or sleeps. She won’t play, she won’t come with any encouragement. Could this be the change of food, or is this normal puppy behavior when they are getting used to a collar? HELP!

I just bought a 12 week old Teacup Yorkie from a breeder. I’ve heard that they can be very difficult to train. If you can’t make a video (but I’m sure tons of people would like to know), could you message me with some tips? I know to take him out first thing in the morning, before bed, and about thirty minutes after he eats, but everytime I put him on the ground (even inside), he starts trembling. I know it’s because he’s nervous, but he can’t hold it until he’s used to his new home!

Hi there! So I just came across your videos now looking for help on getting my little one to walk on a leash.
I know I am a little late but I thought I would ask anyways and hope that you might answer. We just got (A few months ago) a Great Dane, he will be 1 at the end of the month. We have been having a lot of problems with him eating off the counters and table and out of the garbage. Do you have any suggestions to help with this? Thanks so much!

I’ll also just append on this comment, since I’m thinking about it that you don’t do too much with smaller breeds. For instance, as a practical matter, I’m not certain I could ever get my lhasa girl interested in a frisbee or a soccer ball because those are just too big for her to mess with. Both border collies and pit bulls (those are the only breeds I’ve seen you work with on these videos) are larger breeds. But a lot of the physical work in luring is probably going to be more challenging…

for her as a reward, she just stares at me, like “Where’s my treat?” She does like to play, but only when she chooses, and that is not usually after she has done a trick. So, how do I get this stubborn and rather too-smart dog to listen to new stuff?

…and it devolved into “scratch Lauren’s arm while chewing on treat without even trying to balance.” I tried to teach her speak, and it turned into “ignore Lauren until treat is close enough to steal it.” The truth is that the only way we got her through basic training when she was a puppy was by taking her to a professional, and even he said that she was particularly difficult. The one thing I can say for certain is that she is definitely NOT play motivated – any time I try tossing a toy…

Okay, I thought I might try asking a question.
I have a now-7 year old lhasa apso. Now, right now, I know she already has two strikes against her as far as training is concerned a) She’s a stubborn breed, and b) She’s an older dog. However, I’ve been trying to teach her some tricks over the summer while I’m back at home – we spend lots of time together whenever I’m home. However, she is the Tom Sawyer of dogs. Wants the treat, but never wants to do the work. I tried teaching her sit pretty…

Hi Zak…I think your videos are great!
My 4 month old Jack Russell hides her treats or bones and guards them. When she does this, she won’t let us approach or touch her. When I’ve tried going near her or try picking her up she growls and gets really agressive. I really want to stop this now…what do I do?

I posted this on your page, but will post here, too.
How do you get a dog more comfortable with you touching its paws and especially nail trimming? (Mine already knows “shake,” but it hasn’t helped).
Also, when I’m gone, my dog likes to get into food, etc. I assume it’s a separation thing. Ideas?
Otherwise, he’s doing great! Thanks for asking.

i think that would be a bad idea… say u come home from something and ur dogs swarm u u dont want to hav 2 say wait and still hav a dog on u u should get a “universal” term that would tell both of them to stay. On the come issue i would go one on one with the dog (which im doing now i hav 2 mini wienies) and teach them to come when i call there name. So u would hav to say Rocky! and the boxer would come and you would say lola stay. Something like that

Thanks for your video’s.. wow… so helpful..Here is my question.. I have a 4 year old boxer (pretty well trained). Just purchased a Havanese puppy.. She is 11 weeks old. How do i communicate to each dog when they are both in the same room. You tell one to come and they both come etc etc..Do I teach them different commands? example – Rocky (boxer) knows what stay means. Do I teach Lola (Havanese) to wait instead of stay? any tips?
