Has anyone had success with a non-shock ultrasonic bark collar – if so, what brand?
Trying to train my little 3.5 lb. chihuahua to stop barking – she does it a little, and we’d like to get a bark collar. If these have worked for you (non-shock only), what brand? Thanks!

I don’t trust any of them – any sort of tool that you can’t control is a bit far fetched. Why don’t you try actual obedience training? A little more exercise and some obedience work will be a life long lesson while the behavior can return when you remove a collar.
I find most cases of using training collars are the result of the human taking the easy way out of training….

Save your money, watch Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer on National Geographic Channel.
He shows dog owners in very easy steps how to be the pack leader and the dog the follower.
When the dog thinks its the leader (because the owner does pack follower behavior) many "behavior " problems develop like barking, running away, acting out when humans are away, etc.
If you must spend your money, buy the Dog Whisperer CD’s or books.

Well, it worked on my friend’s Jack Russell – as long as he was wearing it. Everytime he heard the sound he’d sit in the corner and shake.
However, my Bassets never even noticed the sound.

The non shock collars are not very effective. An shock type bark collar is the way to go. The best brand is Tri Tronics. The worst is PetSmart.
In response to the guy below me, if the dog runs to the corner and shakes the collar is not doing what it should. That is more reaction than is desirable. The collar should not be used on that dog because he is over sensitive to the correction. Your basset hound has the reaction to the citronella that I have seen. The dog ignores it.
The way to train a dog to a shocking bark collar is to set the collar for the lowest output. If the dog shows any sign of reaction leave it at that setting. The dog will soon learn to link the correction with the barking. If the dog doesn’t show any reaction to the shock, turn it up 1 setting. Repeat until the dog reacts. When the dog gets a correction the collar shuts off for a few seconds. It does this to allow for a dog that yelps in reaction to the initial correction. The dog doesn’t get shocked again. A tiny percentage of dogs are oversensitive to the shock. An electronic collar should not be used on these dogs.
