Has anyone used Remote Spray Collars when training their dog?
I have a Bichon Frise one year old dog that comes to work with me everyday (in a shop) that is fairly well trained but over the last few weeks has started barking at everyone that walks through the door and has shown some aggressive behaveour. She has been in there every day since she was 12 weeks old and its now a big problem as it frightens customers. I dont want to leave her at home so should I pay £90 for a local (recommended) dog trainer to spend 2 hours in the shop or do you think these collars would work in a kind way as they cost the same amount? (spray collar NOT shock collar)

YES! you are doing the right thing by investing in one! the only thing is that you can’t strap ‘em on and go! you have to stand by the dog and tell him firmly what he is doing wrong! thank you for not using a shock collar! those are the worst! but any ways my dog had a horrible barking problem but the spray collar worked almost like magic! if you have a slow shop like maybe 20 to 25 people come in a day then your going to want to work with your dog for at least a week! but if you have a buisy shop say 50 + come in a day you can use it less! and if you have even more coming in your dog may not have a barking problem he could be getting stressed out and barking is what comes naturaly! if so try to fing a place where people are not visible but they can feel comfertable with you around!!
good luck!

My boyfriends Jack Russell had one of the spay collars because he was barking a lot, it worked at first but then he got used to it and barked anyway! If i was you try the dog trainer first especially if your dog was ok in the shop to begin with.

My friend used one but didn’t think much of it, better to take your dog to a local training class.

I have a Dobermann and tried one of these spray collars. They are supposed to stop the dog barking. What a load of cr*p. The dog will bark whatever deterent you try. Train her, as she is only protecting what she thinks is her property and she is also trying to protect you. Assure her that it is ok and that these customers are not a threat.

Use the dog trainer – that way you will learn how to handle the problem. If the collar doesn’t work you’ve paid for that and then you’ll need the trainer!
Plus the trainer can tell you how and why the problem started. If you know that you can prevent your dog from starting the same thing in other places, such as your home.
If you have any trustworthy dog friendly customers who can follow instructions, ask for their help. If not, do you know anyone that can pose as a customer? The trainer may appreciate their help.

We’ve got a Bichon Frise too. I’m glad you’re aiming to address the barking problem sooner rather than later.
We didn’t and we pay the price of regular loud loud loud high pitch barking whenever someone passes the house or comes to the door.

It’s *NOT* "well-trained"!!! OBVIOUSLY!!
***CRATE it!!***
OR use a REAL no-bark collar.

its protecting it area thats all. You need to keep saying No once he understands he will soon stop. a tap with a rolled up newspaper somtines helps. And no it does not need to be hard.
Good luck I hope you find the answer before you go bankrupt

I would go for a trainer/phychologist before anything else. He may be able to pinpoint the reson for the barking very quickly. Is the dog neutered?
I tried the spray collar some years ago on a noisy giant schnauzer but her face hair lessened the effect of it.This might be the same with your bichon.
You could try some training yourself by putting a bowl of small treats in the shop and asking friendly customers to give the dog a treat when they come in once he is quiet. Make sure you alter his meal accordingly or he will put on too much weight.

It will definitely be more worthwhile to work with a trainer because they will help you to understand why she is behaving in this manner. It probably has something to do with her relationship with you.
The spray collar will simply interrupt the symptom of a problem with her attitude and even if she stops the barking habit, the problem will remain and surface in a different way.
Its great that she gets to go to work with you. I wish I could bring my dogs into work!

Hi there I take my dog to work with me too. it took him a little bit of time to settle down so I got him a spray collar (it is totally humane) from http://www.doggiesolutions.co.uk and it did the business he doesn’t need it anymore and the sight of it puts him off barking. She will be fine I took my dog Clyde to a trainer and he was worse than when he went. I made a big point of praising when he didn’t bark and rewarded him. Its all gonna be good. xxx
