How to teach any dog to FETCH!
This is one in a series of dog training tutorials that I have made. Clicker training is demonstrated in this video – but not fully explained. See my video on MOTIVATION for a more detailed explanation of using clickers and treats in training. For an ALTERNATE approach to teaching your dog to hold objects, check out this video: www.youtube.com If you have questions about anything related to this video, let me know in the comments section and I will reply as soon as I can. Remember to subscribe to my channel if you want to see more videos like this that I upload weekly. Thank you for watching and have a nice day.

@BelovedAe I do think that he can still learn! I have seen lots of dogs much older learning new things just as willingly with positive reinforcement.

My dog is never train to fetch. It was my big mistaken to play chasing toys from his mouth. He does enjoying in this chasing game. It’s the luck that his never tenacious reactions to other dogs or his cat mate when he has all toys beside that. One question, please! Do you think he still can train? Because he’ll be 2 years old on 15 of June in this year. Thanks

My dog won’t even touch a toy. I don’t understand, I get her toys and she has no interest at all.. which makes it impossible to teach her to fetch. She’s a really hyper dog, but she just won’t touch a toy. Any ideas? I really want her to play with toys

@Booshkash
Usually it helps quite a bit if the dog understands ‘take it’ & ‘drop it’ before we start sending them away at a distance towards the ball. Also, when we do add distance, start off very small (couple of feet) and build it up over time. I am working on a new video that will explain this in greater detail. Hope this helps.

@jamesjonesrocket I’ll put it this way. Most dogs become a lot easier to train once we discover what motivates them. What is the ultimate reward for your dog? Some prefer to play, others to eat. Once we start teaching them different things, they become better at learning and thus, ‘easier to train’.

this is the best dog video I’ve seen on youtube, nice one. I’ve got an american pitbull and I’d love it to fetch but it’s not interested! Are some dogs easier to train than others?

@BelgianMalinoisfreak A lot of times dogs will take an interest in something, if they see that you are also very interested in it. You can try things like running with the object, teasing your dog with it, playing with it excitedly. You may look a bit crazy, but it will peak your dog’s interest! Good luck!

@playboatingdave Sounds like she’s playing the “come get me, I have a ball” game. I would try to get her to chase you instead. Have a second ball on you and see if you can show her that it’s more fun than the one she has. Let me know how it goes!

@NikkieGreen18 It’s really never too late. I would start by looking for something that you can use to really connect with her. If she’s not interested in toys, you may be able to encourage her with a food or treat that she really enjoys.

Great video! Can’t wait to try this on my dog. She generally gets the idea, but I can’t seem to put all the pieces together. She’ll go get something that I throw and then just run to a corner with it.
