Is 13 weeks old to young to put a stop bark collar on my puppy?
My 13 week old cocker spaniel puppy barks non-stop all day, i’ve tried monitoring it and telling her to stop but it isn’t working. My sister put a collar on her dog and it worked well, i’m just wondering if 13 weeks is still too little though?
Thanks
For those telling me i’m not training her properly, I actually am, i’ve also got a maltese shitzu and she doesn’t bark as i trained her properly. I’ve had dogs all my life and never had this problem, do not presume to think i’m not training her properly. And secondly, she is attending puppy training.

13 weeks is too young to be putting a shock collar on. It is advised on the packaging that the shock collar should not be used on a dog under 8 lbs. Can be very harmful.
Try using a shaker can. It’s a soda can with 15 pennies. Whenever the dog barks, shake the can and give the command "No Bark" in a stern voice. Trust me it works.

TOO YOUNG!!!
Spray her with a squirt bottle of water, and she’ll stop.
Take a training class to learn how to appropriately take control over your pup!

Yes, it is definitely too young!!
How about TRAINING the puppy?? And I don’t mean telling her "stop." Do you really think she understands what "stop" means?
Have you tried playing with her? Giving her a toy? A bone?
Maybe you should try these training articles.

Add:
If you are training her properly, then continue to train her properly. It takes patience and consistency. This dog is only 13 weeks old; it might be another year before she’s matured to the point where she no longer drives you nuts. Putting a bark collar on her would be like giving up on training her; plain and simple, electronic collars are for the lazy pet-owners. Plus, it could harm your dog (especially a puppy!).

I have a friend who used one of those shock collars on her lab pup and it killed it. The Vet said it was unusual for this to happen.

Hmmm. Perhaps you should try to isolate why exactly that your dog is barking. Does it need to go potty, play, is it barking at people? Take the dog to a puppy class, and then to a level one obedience. This puppy needs to be trained. Um, I changed my mind. You need to be trained, because cocker spaniels aren’t really pre disposed to bark. Read as much about cockers that you can.
In my experience, shock collars do not work. And you can’t use them on a puppy. Try a spray bottle.
Good Luck!

get you a jar with a few marbles in it.when she barks shake it to get her attention. then start doing things with her.or give her a snack after a few times of not barking.you have to get her attention away from that.

Yes it is! A puppy shouldn’t have any kind of harsh corrections especially by a bark collar! It can severely damage her sensitive neck area and also destroy the dog’s temperament. A puppy is like a slab of clay anything too harsh can forever scar her.
Cocker spaniel are known to be yappy though. Why is the dog barking? For attention? Distractions? Bored? Lonely? You need to first solve why she’s barking in the first place.
When coming to her and saying "No!" you are actually reinforcing the barking because you are giving her attention. As frustrating as it might be, just ignore the barking. It might be harder now that she knows barking leads to attention but be strong! I believe in you! When she does become quiet, then come over to her and praise her tremendously and have a short play session.

Yes it is, and a dog can be trained without a this type of collar.
would you want to have a little shock to your throat every time you make a sound…..nope, didn’t think so.
puppy training is good and wise…but the collar is a bad method of training……..this is my opinion, and I think its cruel to the dogs, any age…not saying you cant train a dog properly, but this is a poor way of doing it…against the collar as you can tell.

if you were training it properly you wouldn’t put a shock collar on any dog. Try getting yourself some training on how to deal with the problem rather than physical means to correct it

its too young. puppies bark, some more than others. i personally do not believe in bark collars. you can try filling a small tin can with pennies, and when she barks simply shake the can and firmly say no, or a bike horn. noise aversion really seems to work wel. mine bark the minute someone steps foot in my drive way. this seems to be helping
