No Bark Collars…do they work? What kind?
I have a 6 lb. Pomeranian 1 1/2 years old. She has been barking a lot recently. Can anyone recommend a bark collar-the shock one or spray one? Or some other method to get her to stop barking as much??

I personally don’t recommend using a bark collar..its a form of whats called positive punishment…with this kind of training you can cause a dog to become fearful and possibly start to show aggression.
If you are whiling to…try ignoring the dog when it barks. The main reason why a dog barks is greeting, play, attention-seeking and treat/defence. So you are now taking away attention, play and greeting by ignoring.. Once he/she stops barking then give them treats and attention..reinforce that you want quiet not barking.
Always remember things usually get worse before they get better.. So don’t just do it for a few day and think oh its not working.
Also consider seeing a trainer.

The collars do work. I would use the spray one instead of the shock collar. The shock can be pretty strong and that wouldn’t be good for the small puppy.

Pomeraninans are known for barking. I understand that you think that it’s increased, but Poms bark. Can I ask why you got a barky dog if you can’t handle barking?
Find out why she’s barking more. Then, eliminate the reason or train her.
Shock collars should really only be used as a wake-up call under the guidance of an experienced user or owner. If you want to try one, get a good trainer to try and figure out another way to train her and then if it doesn’t work, then have her guide you in shock collar training.
Also, distraction may work. When she starts barking, tell her she’s a good girl and then teach her to "release" or "go to bed" once she’s alerted you to the issue.
But again, get with a one on one trainer who understand toy breed dogs with barking problems.

I have one for a half rottie, half dobie, got it at Petco, tiny shock. Benny barks whenever he is in a snit… too hot, too cold, bored, wants company, wants in, then out again, then in…. i.e., just a guy who likes at times to be a pain…. and he knows it… you name it. enuf was enuf. He doesn’t wear it all the time, though. I recommend them.
However, there may be something quite different why your dog is barking, so, only you can answer if it is something like mine.

I use the barking collar for one of my dogs. (Very large breed) It works great if used properly however they are not recommended for dogs under 8 pounds. Try a shaker can every time he barks. It usually will work on the smaller dogs. Just take an empty can and fill it with change as soon as the first noise comes out shake it.

Gosh that’s terrible!!
How about you train it not to bark when it is not appropriate?! Say Quite in a firm voice. Give it treat when it looks at you in the eyes and it stops barking. Take 10 mintues out of the day to do it. Not that hard.

My sister had a dog that barked alot when she wasn’t home and the neighbors kept complaining. She got a spray collar because she didn’t want "her baby" getting shocked. IT DIDN’T WORK. The dog loved barking so much that it just accepted the spray. She ended up with a rechargeable shock collar that increases the intensity of the shock if the dog continues to bark. I also purchased one of these for my dog. Although you cannot leave it on the dog for more than 12 hours due to skin irritation. I very rarely have to use mine anymore. I prefer the rechargeable one because my old one always seemed to be dead and need batteries when I needed it.

Collar only works with PROPER TRAINING and that means you can’t just put it on and expect it to shock the dog and the dog will stop. You gotta participate in the training. recommend short sessions.
Also, they never worked on my shar pei, too much skin around his neck, and the shock prongs wouldn’t sit on his vocals properly. I will never use one again, it was so sad to see. But to each his own… I won’t judge, because I tried everything with that pup!! Never thought I would have tried that, but I did.

I’ve used a citronella spray collar and it can work. It’s important to also train your dog to do something else besides bark. Dogs bark for lots of reasons and figuring out the reason and dealing with that may be a better way to go. Aversive techniques like bark collars can make some behaviors worse, so the dog may stop barking, or keep barking, but develops other unwanted behaviors.
