Training Collar Guide: Pick the training collar that best suits your pet

Q&A: For those of you involved in clicker training and dog sports?

Question by Winnie the Corgi ©: For those of you involved in clicker training and dog sports?

Which book have you found the most helpful? I’ve been scrolling through amazon.com to find good books on clicker training, agility, and obedience. Are there any that you recommend? The following are some I’ve been looking at. Of the first two, which do you like better?

“Clicker Training for Obedience”- Morgan Spector
“Click for Joy!”- Karen Pryor
“Introduction to Dog Agility”- Margaret Bonham

My dog is a 1 yr. old Corgi who knows basic obedience. I’ve done some clicker training with her, but I’m interested in learning more about it and using it as my primary training tool for obedience and agility (which she doesn’t know yet but I plan on getting her started in it).

Try some of the books from J&J dog Supply (and buy them there)

I personally like “Dont Shoot the Dog!”
Agility Clicker book:

I wouldnt suggest buying from amazon.com they were told by a court to remove some magazines that dealt with dog and rooster fighting and they still have not removed them, it is a federal offense to sell those since it furthers the “sports” of dog and rooster fighting because the magazines list the times and places of fights, sales of animals and paraphenalia, and other atrocities. Please dont support them. I dont like the HSUS but at least they are doing something about the mags.

Edit: Wouldnt let me post the allusion to a male phallus, so I had to use rooster -.-

  • Once you understand how the clicker is used, you can apply it to anything.

You can find all the information in the books online. It will just take a little bit of reading.

Also check out youtube for tutorial videos.

  • if I may, check out my book Click Your Way to Rally Obedience. That will get you most of the way through comeptition obedience as well. You can get it driect from the publisher http://www.alpinepub.com or from http://www.dogwise.com

Training for competition using the clicker is quite easy – knowing exactly what to click is a little harder
