We are getting a maltepoo puppy in 2-3 weeks. She will be an inside dog and I have heard that “crate training” is the best way to go but I don’t know anything about it. Can anyone suggest a really good book to learn about crate training? Thanks.

Answer by ross_2319@sbcglobal.net
no but i can help.
first of all try to train your puppy with out treats this way she wont expect them all the time.
every time you get ready to leave pick her up and say crate or cage as you put her in.
as she gets older take a treat and say cage and show her that she gets a traet when she obeys and make sure she knows that you will always come back by starting out with short periods of time that you are away.

Chix Question: Rehab is for Quitters : DS: Your opinion about philosophy Leeburg training on how and when corrections Leerburg posted an interesting “how” of when and how to apply corrections – and how force.http: / / leerburg.com / corrections.htmVoici my summary of what I loved and hated by his approach, I am curious to hear your opinion on his philosophy of training? You do not agree or disagree with moi.Ce I liked: – I agree that corrections do nothing but create a haunting dialogue with the dog. My theory has always been: a direction – a correction .- I like the fact that he says a dog should not be punished for something he has not been taught and that “force compliance” without possibility of reward learning is exceeded, I like the fact that it introduces other methods as viable options rewards (toys, candy, voice) – I find his objections to the method of Koehler type (automatic corrections ) really convincing. He makes a case against punishing the dog for making a mistake because he has not learned the appropriate behavior .- It has an interesting collar called a “string of dominant position” I have not seen before and will investigate as an option for attack dog on the lead – he recommends it as an alternative to a string of elements “taking the reader out of the dog.” (That is, reducing the desire to fight dogs or bite) I am undecided about this, but intrigué.Qu that is what I did not like-I never in 30 years have found it necessary to use an e-collar or any other form of extreme punishment to “extinguish” behaviors such as raiding garbage. (Corrections avoidance). My dogs do not chew, or stealing garbage and I have three of them in the kitchen every day with my garbage from the kitchen in daily vue.Même with holes to dig, or other undesirable behavior . I have strong objections to using pain as a result of these types of changes in behavior .- I can not even wrap my head around an e-collar used for dog training sport. Yes, it makes a good case and said it should be used only once the dog has been taught the correct behavior, but the question I have is why the pain is an acceptable punishment for a routine in dogs Sports commonly known as “bark and hold.” If ever I have to deploy my dog in real life – I really hope it does not stop there – I sent him to bark and die . I see no point to this routine, and the punishment for me to get the dog to comply is not barking justifiée.Je never used as a means of intimidation. I consider it a provocation and I avoid conflict – why any civilian has chosen to provoke a fight with their dog as bait? Is about it for me. @ Greek: I appreciate your detailed response. A comment about dogs barking – I’m qualifying my comments as a “civilian” of the police against the person, as many posters here regularly for Schtzhund is a “game” for their dogs. And this is a sports weekend for “Fun”. I do pas.Deuxièmement, the police here in Canada using minimum force – non-lethal (thankfully). Police with K-9 barking as a means of crowd control (for example our recent G20 in Toronto) is valid and I get that. However, in real life threatening situations personal – I (unfortunately) been in a handful in 30 years-and found a fearless dog more of an asset – assuming that I have yet to deploy my dog. I appreciate all comments. Thank you for the link to DL Volhard collar. @ Greek: Thanks for the add. I confess that I train my dog at times, I and my three dogs are just now in a canoe. But stealth was my friend. And in times of great need, my dogs reminded distance with no more than a whisper. That’s what I mean when I say I’m “serious”. When I’m not, they ignore me regularly (which by the standards of many people, that makes me a bad coach.) Accept YA is not the best place for context, I qualify this with this comment : The world does not tolerate ambiguity in dogs: so I do not leave things to chance and do not let them romp off-leash in a park – where I always have control and no need an e-collar. Yes, the day will come when I need the dog to a show – then the gloves are off. His never say never. See you soon @ UHave2Be: Is it fair to assume that you are a fan Koehler? (Smile) Anyway, thank you for the additions – you made some valid points. I appreciate the intelligent discussion. I’ll have to dig and read more. MissManners @: Thanks for the post. To be clear, I talked about Koehler Leerburgs description of “automatic” corrections – not forced. Admit, I used this approach with my dogs – so I suggest the interesting question of its use. I’m on the fence for now. Ecollar about – as I age, I may use my arm when ecollar give arthritis. I will not say never – but not now. :-0Meilleure response: Answer

by daily learning I
Leerburg as a whole. Much of what he says does not work and make sense. What gets me is the dominant dog collar, it’s really just touts the same Volhard collar has been used for years. <Http://www.handcraftcollars.com/snaparoundtrainingcollar.aspx thats thats make the site since the mid-70s. I used their method to produce a CD and CDX OTCh. Even necklace .. and results fiablesJe'm not his ideas on the use of collar E. I can solve most problems with other simpler methods. A pipe, a water pistol .. a cement block in the trash ..
Add your own answer in the comments!

blackkwidow Question : What’s so special about “clicker training” dog I am for positive reinforcement, I am also for the correction – but I’m not really talk of that, I mean the clicker itself. What is so special about the click that the dog is supposed to understand? I read a number of “clicker training” and they give these reasons the clicker is better, but then they try to sell you the clicker … If you were disabled or something, dumb, or deaf, I can understand, but if you’re not them, why not just say good dog, or a pat or a treat? one of the reasons they said is that it is faster, which just seems lazy to me. Another reason is that dogs do not understand English. Well, duh! but apparently, they can involve a large number of sounds and gestures to understand well enough to sit, heel and stay, and my dog like that when I talk to him. When we do something he’s comfortable with, like cutting nails or double time, it responds much better when I’m saying it’s gonna be OK, than not. Or if the dogs are all about body language, why not just invent a kind of “reward” a short word or gesture which is unusual for your dog to locate gibberish normal conversation. (However, sometimes my dog will pick up the word “sit” in normal conversation and to do so) So what’s the real point of the clicker itself? Or is it just a way to make money on all those who want the “new” thing? Best answer: Answer

by Alice C
dogs are supposed to sound like the clicker or something …
