Al Bullington asked:

Dog barking devices are tools to help quiet excess barking. We all know that dogs bark, that’s just what dogs do. Have you noticed that all that barking doesn’t seem to bother the dog at all? That’s because it doesn’t. Many dogs seem to really enjoy making a racket. Too much of that noise, on the other hand, can drive humans right to the edge. Here are some of the tools you can turn to.

Often a shock collar is the first thought when a bark control device is mentioned. No doubt electronic anti bark collars work. They usually do stop barking, and quickly. But they usually only work as long as the collar is on and charged. Most dogs can sense that the collar isn’t working and they certainly know when it’s removed. Then the barking starts back.

Here’s the other problem with shock collars. Many dogs go into panic mode when the shocking starts. The shocks drive them crazy. I can understand that, can’t you? Also, many dogs become very nervous and unstable after a shock collar is used. All in all, a shock collar seems like a bad idea.

Other collar options seem to work just as well or better.

For example, the ultrasonic collar generates a sound that’s unpleasant to the dog but inaudible to people whenever barking starts. That seems fair… to fight noise with noise. These seem to be about as effective as shock collars.

Then there is the citronella collar. Dog barking triggers a sensor that squirts oil into the dog’s face. That’s a bit shocking, but not harmful. It’s not just the surprise that stops the barking either. Citronella oil is stinky and unpleasant to sensitive noses. That’s enough to make most barkers shut up to stop the stink.

It isn’t necessary to resort to electrical shocks to stop dog barking. Often, just a change in how you deal with a pet can stop excess barking. If not, one of the dog barking devices can be a useful tool to stop the noise.

Kathe

My boyfriend and I have 6 dogs. Each dog has a problem, ie bad on a leash, jumps fence or bites when someone touches their bed etc.
I tested my friends shock collar on the lowest setting on my wrist, it is just a vibration.

I am mainly worried about my mini doxie and his size though.

Valentin

Lilli O asked:

I have an extremely disobedient and loud 9 month old Rottweiler x Dobermen. I caught her mating with the neighbors Irish Setter x Beagle when she was on her 7th day of heat and again on the 15th day. She is gaining weight and her ******* are enlarged. I have used a shock collar on her before but I’m conserend if I should do it while she is pregnant. I need to use it on her because the neighbors are thretening to call the humane society if she doesn’t shut up. She is a outside only dog and I don’t plan to change that any time soon – no matter what. What suggestions do you have for me if a shock collar is not meaned to use on pregnant dogs. Can I even use a low shock one or are all shock collars on the no list while she is pregnant? What about when she is giving birth and when the pups are weaning? I don’t want her inside at any time and I don’t want her puppies inside. I just don’t.

Please no rude answers. I have tried training her but she is so stupid it’s embaressing to take her.
Actually, I have a few more questions about the genetic side of dog breeding. My dog is a black and tan dog with a white spot on her shoulder. The neigbors dog is red/tan/white. What color should the puppies be? My neighbors dog has elbow dessplaysia, whatever that is, is it serious to my pups or my dog? Will it harm them? And, my dog is extremely timid and can be very boysturous (sp?) and loud. My neighbors dog is slightly aggressive and can be very disobedient and cruel to children. As in, their dog has threatened to bite another baby.
I have tried the citrus thing but Chelsea doesn’t react to it. She tries to lick it and she goes mental over it. I prefer to use the shock collars as it gives a better reaction and is a better training method for dogs like Chel.
I don’t want to spay her yet because I just got a Germen Shepard x MinPin that I want to breed her with because they are all Germen breeds. I want to try create a new breed but this pregnancy was a throw back. She is still young. I didn’t want to breed her until her second or third period because I read on a website that it’s harmful.

I DO NOT WANT TO SPAY/NEUTER BECAUSE I BELEIVE IT IS MEAN AND WRONG. I ALSO WANT TO MAKE MONEY SO BREEDING IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR ME. I don’t care what your “theries” on spaying and fixing dogs – I don’t wwant to!
ROLLS EYES.

I can’t use anything else. Nothing works! She is so stupid. She will make a huge fuss if I take her to obedient training and spay bottles and citrus just makes her go crazy and she starts jumping everywhere and growling at me. Shock collars are the only things that work for her. I am going to try sell the babies but if I can’t I will just give them away or dump the runt lol just joking. I want to keep a girl to breed. The rest I will try sell when they are like 4 weeks old so that they are cute. I got chelsea when she was 5 weeks old and i got my boy, Sam, when he was 7 weeks old. They are so much cuter as babies. It’s too hard to get rid of them when they are like 8 weeks old.

Myrta
