Ty Brown asked:

Dogtra brand electric dog training collars are one of the best made shock collars you can find on the market.

For the last year of so I have been using the Dogtra brand e-collar with more and more frequency. There are a number of benefits that these training collars have over several other brands:

1- Quality manufacturing. Dogtra builds a great collar. Their receivers and remotes are either water proof or water resistant. They also offer a comprehensive warranty. These e-collars far outlast the electric collars that you will find at the big box retailers.

2- Levels of stimulation. Perhaps the thing I like best about the Dogtra remote trainers are the levels of stimulation. Many e-collars only have a handful of levels that you can train with. The Dogtra collars have from level 1 to 100. You can adjust the level with a dial on some models and digitally on others. This allows for finding the exact right level to train your dog. Too many collars are too limited when it comes to level of stimulation, one level is too high while another is too low. This is not a problem you will have with Dogtra.

3- Price. Among the best made collars available the Dogtra collars are competitively priced. The model number 175 NCP which is great for obedience training and behavior modification usually retails at around $175. That is affordable on most dog owner’s budgets.

Dogtra collars are used for obedience training, police dogs, hunting dogs, behavior modification and more. They make a wide variety of remote trainers and bark collars.

Used properly a shock collar is one of the most humane tools for training a dog. The collar should rarely be used as a means of punishment, but rather a means of communication. Used properly, the collar is set on a low level and much time is spent teaching the dog using both the leash and e-collar together.

Use the e-collar wisely and you can have a much more obedient dog.

Cathi

Al Bullington asked:

Constant dog barking can drive you almost crazy. One possible solution is an anti bark collar. Remember though that something is causing all that barking. Observation of your dog may help you find the cause.

If you don’t know what else to do, a dog barking collar may work to give you some peace and quiet. Now barking doesn’t bother your dog. It doesn’t hurt his ears or irritate his throat. In fact, it’s probably fun for your dog to bark. But, in many cases getting the barking under control could improve your whole outlook on life. It may help your neighbor’s quality of life too.

You have four choices for anti bark collars.

1. Ultrasonic collars.

Ultrasonic bark control collars detect barking and then generate a powerful blast of sound that your dog hears, but you don’t. The noise stops when the barking stops. Most dogs learn to stop barking.

2. Vibrating collars.

If the dog barks, these collars start vibrating until the barking stops. None of these collars work for all dogs. And many dogs know the problem is coming from the collar. Remove the collar and the barking comes back.

3. Shock collars.

A shock to the dog comes from these collars when the barking begins. Usually the intensity of the shock is variable. Remember that some level of barking is normal for any dog and it certainly seems extreme to shock a dog just for barking.

4. Citronella collars.

Barking triggers a spray in the face of the dog with citronella oil. Now the oil won’t hurt the dog, but the spray is startling and the smell is powerful and persistent. None of this is harmful to the dog, but it isn’t much fun either. Some report these spray collars are as effective as the shock collars.

If your dog’s wild barking spells are driving you nutty, get some peace and quiet with dog barking training. An anti bark collar may be just the tool that will help you.

Lucia

Beth K. Harrod asked:

A citronella anti bark collar is probably one of the most effective, easiest, and kindest ways to stop your dog from barking. Not only does a citronella anti bark collar work better than a shock collar or a sound collar but its also much more friendly to the dog. A Citronella anti bark collar works by spraying a fine mist of sent towards your dogs nose when he/she barks. Dogs just simply don’t care for the experience one bit. The hissing noise that the sprayer makes startles them and they also dislike the smell of the citronella.

For most dogs, it only takes a few sprays to figure out why they are getting sprayed and associate this with the barking with the collar. Once the pet makes this connection, they should stop barking to avoid the unpleasant experience. Many studies have proven that citronella anti bark collars are at least two times more effective than a shock collar and the sound collars only work on a very small percentage of dogs. Although no one can guarantee that something will work for all dogs it can be said that the citronella anti bark collar will work for most of them and many times in situations where other control methods have failed.

Of course there are a few situations that a citronella anti bark collar really shouldn’t be used. If your dog is barking out of real true fear or your pet suffers from separation anxiety then a bark control collar may not be the most effective option. If you think your dogs is barking due to anxiety then you should talk to your veterinarian before you purchase any behavior modification system.

If your pet has vision or other health issues its best to talk to your veterinarian because there could be a reason for the barking that might be better controlled in another way. In fact, in old dogs it might make the issue worse because they are confused about what’s going on around them and the spray only intensifies that fear.

All in all it is a good idea to talk to your veterinarian before you start using any anti barking system to assure that the barking is not caused by any legitimate medical reason. The citronella anti bark collar is widely used and suggested by professionals when there is not a medical reason for the dog’s excessive vocalization and is considered safe and effective at curing this bad habit.

Elayne
